Mid-IR spectra of the saline (dashed line) and protein (solid line) components of corneal stroma. The spectra have been scaled so that the absorption coefficient for saline at 6.1 µm is 0.27 µm−1 (Hale & Querry, 1973BB7). Although the protein absorption coefficients are similar at 3.0, 6.1 and 6.45 µm, the protein-to-saline ratios of the absorption coefficients (dots) differ dramatically.
