Schematic of the system of interest. The biocrystal, treated as a sphere, is exposed to an X-ray beam with absorption causing internal heating [q_{\rm{abs}}^{\prime\prime\prime}]. The source beam diameter is shown smaller than the sample size (Db < Ds) but may be larger and irradiate the entire sphere (Db = Ds). The sphere is immersed in a cooling gas stream with uniform upstream velocity U and constant temperature T.
