Powder diffraction pattern recorded using a Mar345 image plate on LaAlO3 loaded in NaCl at 27 GPa after annealing with a CO2 laser. The image shows smooth Debye–Scherrer fringes allowing for straightforward quantitative evaluation of the observed peak intensities. It is very difficult to obtain diffraction patterns of such smoothness at such a high pressure without extensive sample preparation and treatment in advance of the diffraction experiment.
