Space-charge calculations for (a) 10 µm and (b) 50 nm spot sizes, as a function of number of electrons generated per soft X-ray pulse, and as a function of soft X-ray pulse duration (full width at half-maximum). The calculations are for 80 eV photon energy. The labels B, U1 and U2 mark the positions of the baseline ALS performance, and the improved performance under two different upgrade scenarios as discussed in the text.
