The novel title indium gadolinium germanate, In1.08Gd0.92Ge2O7, belongs to the thortveitite family, with the single octahedral site occupied by both In and Gd atoms. This compound showed a remarkable photoluminescence effect when it was irradiated both with the X-ray beam during the X-ray diffraction measurements and with the α beam during the Rutherford back-scattering spectrometry experiments.

The structure of Sr4Mn2CuO9 consists of chains of face-sharing polyhedra, in a sequence of two [MnO6] octahedra and one trigonal prism, with Cu atoms disordered over its square faces. The chains are held together by Sr atoms.

The title mixed trimetallic diphosphate exists as a solid matrix of Sr3Mn2(P2O7)3 stoichiometry in which are found tunnels of dimensions 5.43 × 9.28 Å containing K+ ions. The presence of several cations differing in size in the solid matrix leads to the formation of large tunnels and potential conductivity.

The title compound consists of [V10O28]6− anions, trimeric {[Na(H2O)3][Ni(H2O)6][Na(H2O)3]}4+ cations, [Ni(H2O)6]2+ cations and water molecules of crystallization. The connection of the trimeric cations and the decavanadate anions results in a one-dimensional polycation–polyanion hybrid polymer. The polymers are bound together via hydrogen bonds.
