Schematic illustration of the experiment showing the incoming X-ray beam (source is far to the left, not drawn to scale) passing through relevant filters to reach the sample mounted on the rotation stage. The samples were kept humid in a sealed plastic vial throughout the experiment. Fresnel propagation was induced by increasing the distance between the sample and detector (33 mm) leading to edge enhancement with sufficient contrast to view the adhesive layer (Cloetens et al., 1996BB1).
