Conventional X-ray microfocus computed tomography (XµCT) versus synchrotron-based computed microtomography (SRµCT). Two different temporal bone samples were scanned, but the volumetric data were manually aligned to display similar cross-sectional views of the cochlea. Streak artefacts due to the highly absorbing platinum contacts were observed with both imaging techniques. However, in SRµCT images, they were substantially less pronounced, allowing for the identification of fine anatomical structures in close proximity to the electrode contacts. |
