Variation of pressure and flow rate during the synchrotron experiment. Pressure is depicted by the solid blue line; the dashed black line is the flow rate. Breaks in the plot correspond to periods where data were not collected. Flow rate was adjusted manually through the HPLC pump in order to maintain a steady flow. The true flow rate of the sample leaving the nozzle may be different, particularly when the `saw-toothing' behaviour occurs. In general, the true flow rate also lags a change in the HPLC set point as the sample takes some time to adapt. Plots (a)–(f) depict data for samples A1–A5, respectively.
