Figure 12
Mechanical (pressure, stress, strain) and acoustic records (maximum amplitude of each event and cumulative number of events) in olivine deformed at 1180 K under nominally dry conditions. Pressures were determined by the equation of state of olivine (Liu et al., 2005 ). Stress values were obtained from three diffraction peaks of olivine (circles: 021; squares: 130; triangles: 131). Pressure and strain are shown by grey open circles. The cumulative number of AEs (grey line) and amplitudes (red lines: AEs from inside the sample; green lines: outside the sample) are plotted against time. The total number of AE events from the inside of the sample (N) is also shown. AE events were collected with six piezoceramic lead-zirconate titanate transducers (narrow-band type with the resonant frequency of ∼4 MHz) that were attached to the rear side of each second-stage anvil. |
