In eukaryotic cells, RNA surveillance, maturation and decay depend to a great extent on the 3'-5' exonucleolytic and endonucleolytic activities of the RNA exosome complex. The RRM-protein RBM7 is part of the nuclear exosome targeting (NEXT) complex that directs the nuclear RNA exosome to many of its nucleoplasmic substrates.

Two high-resolution co-crystal structures of the mitotic protein kinase haspin with previously reported conjugates consisting of an ATP analogue and a histone H3(1–7) peptide analogue confirm the bisubstrate character of the compounds and provide directions for the future development of more specific haspin inhibitors.

The expression, purification and crystallization of the DNA-binding Myb domain of LUX ARRHYTHMO from A. thaliana in complex with DNA are reported. The binding affinity of the Myb domain for DNA was measured and was found to be in the low-nanomolar range, suggesting that a single Myb domain is able to bind to its cognate DNA with very high affinity.

PvdN (PA2394) from P. aeruginosa is a nonribosomal peptide synthetase tailoring enzyme that is involved in pyoverdine biosynthesis. PvdN has been identified as a periplasmic protein that is pyridoxal 5′-phosphate-dependent and shows homology to class I aminotransferases. Here, the crystal structure of PvdN is reported at 1.22 Å resolution.
