Cover illustration: The synthesis and crystal structure of a `Japanese rice-ball'-shaped Molybdenum Blue hybridized organically with 2-picolinic acid is presented. In addition to single-crystal X-ray analysis, the title compound was characterized with IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses to reinforce its framework structure, thermogravimetric analysis to quantify the water content, and Vis–NIR spectroscopy to determine the degree of reduction of the nanocluster. Hydroxyapatite is a complex material, which is often nanocrystalline and substituted within a biological setting. Both long-range and local structures were interrogated with X-ray diffraction and X-ray total scattering.

Novel double transition-metal phosphates, Na2NiCu(PO4)2 and Mn2Cu(PO4)2, with a rare combination of Ni/Cu and Mn/Cu metal atoms, synthesized hydrothermally and studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, are discussed as potential magnetic materials.
