Cover illustration: In this issue, Morawiec [Acta Cryst. (2024), A80, 379–386] considers the theory underlying the determination of a crystal lattice from neutron transmission spectra. Such spectra contain Bragg dips, i.e. minima at wavelengths corresponding to diffraction reflections. By recording the positions of the dips as the crystal is rotated about a fixed axis, one obtains a pattern of sinusoids as sketched in the lower part of the cover image. Methods are described for indexing such patterns. It is shown that the crystal lattice can be determined unambiguously only if the axis of sample rotation is inclined to the neutron beam.
