RbBa₂(N₃)₅: a new ternary azide

The metal atoms in the crystal structure of RbBa₂(N₃)₅ form a distorted AlB₂-type arrangement with voids filled by azide groups.

The new lead vanadylphosphate Pb₂VO(PO₄)₂

The [VOPO₄] layers in the Pb₂VO(PO₄)₂ structure result in unusual magnetic properties. The layers are oriented in opposite directions in a chessboard fashion. VO₅ square pyramids are connected by tetra­hedral PO₄ groups. The layers are separated by Pb atoms and isolated PO₄ tetra­hedra.
