Section and Main Editor appointments
This page provides details of the procedures for appointing new Section or Main Editors for IUCr Journals. The general aim is to have several Main Editors for each journal. Standard information needs to be collected for each candidate and a form for this is provided below. Procedures for the appointment of Co-editors are slightly different and are described elsewhere.
Main Editor appointments procedure
The procedure for Main Editor appointments is as follows:
(1) A shortlist of candidates should be put forward by the Editor-in-chief and Main Editors based on the current needs of the journal.
(2) The Chester Office provides additional background information on candidates.
(3) The Editor-in-chief discusses these with the Main and Managing Editors of the journal and Executive Managing Editor.
(4) The prospective Editor is approached by Editor-in-chief and asked if they would willing to become an Editor and to provide a CV.
(5) Approved names are sent to the IUCr CEO.
(6) The IUCr CEO ballots the Executive Committee on the proposed person.
(7) If approved, the IUCr CEO sends out a formal letter of appointment.
(8) The Managing Editor for the journal sends out a welcome letter giving practical details of the appointment.
