Cover illustration: A displacement ellipsoid plot (50% probability level) showing the polymeric unit of poly[[(1,10-phenanthroline-[kappa]2N,N')cadmium(II)]-[mu]-thiosulfato]. The independent part of the structure is shown with full displacement ellipsoids. See Enriqueta Díaz de Vivar, Baggio & Baggio [Acta Cryst. (2004), C60, m495-m497].

Triclinic CaS2O3·6H2O is built up from [Ca(H2O)6(S2O3)] chains, parallel to [100], of alternating S2O3 and Ca(H2O)6O2 groups sharing common O atoms. Monoclinic SrS2O3·5H2O consists of [Sr(H2O)3O(S2O3)] layers of alternating S2O3 and Sr(H2O)4O5 groups, parallel to (100), sharing O atoms and O–O edges.
