invite letters for special issues

Examples of invites are as follows.

Subject: IUCr Journals - 75th Anniversary Special Edition Article Request

Dear

I am writing to you regarding your talk at the 26th Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) in Melbourne.

TITLE OF TALK

The IUCr is keen to capture these special talks in its journals. I am inviting you to write a high-quality scientific article based on the broad area of your talk. If this is agreeable, then subject to satisfactory review, our aim is to include your article in an online collection of articles covering research reported at the Congress and celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the IUCr.

At this point, I am writing to you to ask you to suggest a working title for your article (your article can be either a Topical Review or a Research Article). Topical Reviews aim to capture current trends in a field and are expected to be relatively short (about 6000 words). Inclusion of new results, as well as a historical perspective is appropriate. You may choose co-authors for this contribution.

I hope you can accept this invitation and very much look forward to receiving your formal agreement to contribute an article. The timetable would be as follows:

1 July 2023 - Agreement to write an article
31 December 2023 - Final submission deadline

I would be grateful if you could also copy your agreement and working article title to Louise Jones ([email protected]) at the IUCr Editorial Office, who is in copy of this e-mail.

The IUCr Editorial Office will be setting up a dedicated URL for the submission of your article. Assuming you can accept this invitation, they will write to you in due course with this information. You may choose to publish your article in any IUCr Journal (please let Louise know which journal you would prefer). If you decide to publish open access, publication will either be free if your institution has an open-access deal, or you can claim a 20% discount on the open-access fee when you accept this invitation. More details on open access can be found at https://journals.iucr.org/services/openaccess.html

I look forward to your response and, hopefully in due course, to your associated article submission to our journals.

Best wishes,
Andrew Allen, Editor-in-chief, IUCr Journals

Subject: Special issue of JSR on Diffraction-Limited Storage Rings

Dear

A special issue of the Journal of Synchrotron Radiation entitled `Diffraction- Limited Storage Rings and New Science Opportunities' is proposed.

The special issue will include technical contributions from various sources on how to configure high-brightness multibend achromat lattices and some contributions on the new science that can performed.

As one of the recognised researchers within the field I would like to take this opportunity to especially invite you to submit a paper to this special issue, as this would certainly enhance the stature of the special issue.

A possible outline of the issue is attached.

Important dates and deadlines:

15 September 2013 - Invited authors to submit the names of their co-authors and a 300 word synopsis

15 February 2014 - Final submission date of papers via IUCr website

1 September 2014 - Date of publication

Guest Editors: J. Friso van der Veen and Mikael Eriksson.

Instructions for preparing and submitting papers are available at:

http://journals.iucr.org/s/services/specialissues.html.

Please contact either of the Guest Editors, J. Friso van der Veen ([email protected]) and Mikael Eriksson ([email protected]), or Tony Weight ([email protected]), the Managing Editor of Journal of Synchrotron Radiation, if you should have any questions about the special issue.

Thanking you in advance and best wishes,

J. Friso van der Veen

Subject: Special issue on non-ambient crystallography in Acta Crystallographica

Dear

Special issue on non-ambient crystallography in Acta Crystallographica

[You are receiving this mail because you are an author of one or more articles published recently in a journal related to non-ambient crystallography.]

As part of efforts to refresh and reinvigorate the IUCr journals, it was decided that Acta Crystallographica Section B: Structural Science, Crystal Engineering and Materials, will start publishing Special Issues. In particular, over the next year, and to coincide with the International Year of Crystallography (http://www.iycr.org), Acta Crystallographica will publish a special issue in Section B devoted to non-ambient crystallography.

The special issue will include perspective/review articles from some well recognised names active in non-ambient crystallography. These will be accompanied by research articles, which we hope will illustrate not only the current state of the art, but also the diversity within this growing research field.

As one of the recognised researchers within the field of non-ambient crystallography I would like to take this opportunity to especially invite you to submit a paper to this special issue, as this would certainly enhance the stature of the special issue.

Instructions for submission are available at:

http://journals.iucr.org/b/services/specialissues.html

The target date for submissions is 15 September 2013, with a planned publication date of 31 January 2014.

Please contact either of the Guest Editors, Dave Billing ([email protected]) and Andrzej Katrusiak ([email protected])), or Jill Bradshaw ([email protected]), the Managing Editor of Acta Crystallographica Section B, if you should have any questions about the scope of the special issue or about the role of IUCr journals as a forum for publication of results in non-ambient crystallography.

Thanking you in advance and best wishes,

Dave Billing

Subject: Invitation

Dear

We are proposing to make a special issue of Acta Crystallographica: Section A on Mathematical Crystallography and have identified a short list of highly qualified people, including yourself, to contribute to this edition. We would like to invite you to submit a manuscript.

The timing for the special edition will coincide with the three special mini-symposia on Mathematical Crystallography: Geometric Foundations that are being organized as part of the SIAM conference Mathematical Aspects of Materials Science that will take place in Philadelphia from June 9-12 2013 (http://meetings.siam.org/program.cfm?CONFCODE=MS13).

The edition is not a conference proceedings, but a snapshot of papers on the most exciting emerging areas of mathematical crystallography. The papers will describe original work that that may, or may not, have been presented at the mini-symposia and that has not been published elsewhere. Massimo Nespolo and Gregory McColm have kindly agreed to act as Guest Editors for this special issue.

Acta Crystallographica: Section A is the premier journal for publishing advances in the foundations and theory of crystallography and the study of the structure in general, including structure on the nanoscale. We think that a special edition highlighting advances in mathematical crystallography from the leading experts in this field will provide an excellent and high profile platform for you work and we very much hope that will submit a manuscript. The papers will be considered as normal full submissions to Acta and will receive the usual rigorous refereeing and editing. There is no page limit. We would like to have all the papers submitted as soon as possible but by the end of July at the latest so that we can accomplish the refereeing and production and have the special edition appear this calendar year.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in contributing a manuscript. I would be happy to answer any questions that you have.

Thank you very much for your consideration,

Best regards

Simon Billinge

Section Editor, Acta Crystallgraphic Section A
