Highlighted illustration

Cover illustration: The structure of the hydrochloride of this tripodal ligand is reported as the free ligand does not crystallize. The claw-like conformation of the protonated cation is retained, generating a cavity that could incorporate guest species. In this example, C27H36N7O63+·3Cl-·1.41H2O, one of the three chloride counter-ions is found in the cavity, strongly hydrogen bonded to the NH2+ groups.
